Botox or Dysport: What's The Difference?
Most everyone is familiar with Botox, which is the most popular cosmetic treatment performed nationwide. However, are you aware that Botox has a cousin called Dysport? Many individuals receive both Botox and Dysport treatments to combat expression lines and wrinkles. Read on to learn more about these two injectable treatments.
Botox vs Dysport
Both Dysport and Botox are classified as neuromodulators, and are made up of a type of botulinum toxin type A. These injectables work by blocking the nerve signals that cause facial muscles to contract, temporarily relaxing them and smoothing wrinkles.
While many physicians have debated whether there are any differences between these treatments, they have determined that Dysport varies a bit. The main differences are that Dysport spreads to wider areas than Botox, which is an advantage in certain areas of the face and a disadvantage in others. Dysport also works more quickly than Botox, with onset being 2-5 days compared to Botox’s 4-7 days. Dysport may not last as long as Botox, and you may need more Dysport to see the same results as Botox, though this is still being studied.
