Current Plastic Surgery Trends

Over the years, there have been great strides of advancement in the field of plastic surgery, but with advancements come trends. Trends in this field, in particular, are often inspired by pop culture and Hollywood’s current “it girls”. Each year, the American Society of Plastic Surgeons releases a statistical report outlining last year’s nationwide trends.

Current Plastic Surgery Trends

A Rise in Vaginal & Buttock Procedures

The 2016 report was the first report to show data on labiaplasty, which is a procedure that is done to improve the appearance of female genitalia. Procedures such as these increased by 39% from 2015. In addition to labiaplasty, the buttock lift procedure is also trending. Buttock lifts and enhancements increased by 58% from 2015 to 2016. This trend, in particular, is heavily influenced by social media, celebrities, and the music industry.

Changes in Breast Procedures

While breast procedures still remain the most popular surgery in the group, changes in size have fluctuated over the years. In the 1990’s and early 2000’s patients were looking for larger implants. In recent years, the size of breast implants has gotten smaller and more natural looking.

Turn up the Volume

There has been a pretty steep increase in injectable procedures and a decrease in the more invasive procedures that remove excess skin. Many patients are looking to plump up areas that fill in depressions and tightens the skin over it. With advancements in injectable technology, people have been able to experience great results with less invasive options, such as Botox or dermal fillers.
