How is Asian Rhinoplasty Different From Traditional Rhinoplasty?

Rhinoplasty is a cosmetic procedure that makes subtle changes to the nose. It also can treat breathing or functional issues for some patients in Atlanta, GA. At Rejuve Aesthetic Surgery, Dr. Brandon-Dzung Mang, a board-certified plastic surgeon, works hard to ensure his patients get natural-looking results. He offers consultations where he can learn of the goals for surgery and determine whether an Asian rhinoplasty or regular nose reshaping surgery is needed.

What is an Asian rhinoplasty?

It’s important to understand the nasal anatomy of Asians to determine if an Asian rhinoplasty is necessary. A typical Asian nose is small in height and width. The nasal tip is poorly defined, which requires an Asian nose tip refinement. During an Asian rhinoplasty or ethnic rhinoplasty, we focus on adjusting the nose so that it is well-balanced to other facial features. Dr. Mang can explain the Asian rhinoplasty procedure during a consultation at his Atlanta, GA, office.

How is Asian rhinoplasty different than regular rhinoplasty?

Most Asian rhinoplasty surgeries resolve around the projection of the nasal tip or augmentation of the dorsum, which is near the upper cheeks and eye area. However, each patient may want something different, so we customize surgery based on a patient’s desired appearance.

Am I a candidate for rhinoplasty in Atlanta, GA?

Both women and men have had successful rhinoplasty surgeries at Rejuve Aesthetic Surgery. When you don’t like how your nose looks, or you want to treat different breathing issues, nose reshaping surgery is a great option. Dr. Mang can discuss changes to your nose to ensure you’re comfortable with the process during a consultation.

A good candidate for rhinoplasty is someone who:

  • Is in good health

  • Has a nose size they want to change

  • Has a drooping nose tip

  • Has breathing issues that they want to be corrected

How rhinoplasty is performed

Dr. Mang performs rhinoplasty while the patient is under general anesthesia. A variety of surgical techniques are used depending on the goals of the patient. We can use an open or closed technique. The overall goal of surgery is to remove excess tissue and/or cartilage, or to enhance or add cartilage to alter the shape of the nose. After repositioning your nasal feature, the skin is put back in place, and sutures are placed inside the nose or along the natural crease.

Recovery from rhinoplasty

After surgery, we will monitor you in the recovery room; then, you will be sent home. Your nose and the area around it will look swollen and bruised for the first few days. Many patients also experience discoloration under their eyes. Dr. Mang recommends using cold compresses and anti-inflammatory medicine. A follow-up appointment within 72 hours of your surgery helps us assess your healing. It takes anywhere from 2 – 4 weeks to recover from your surgery.

Achieve your dream nose with rhinoplasty
