Dr. Brandon-Dzung Mang is a board-certified plastic surgeon with Rejuve Aesthetic Surgery in Atlanta, GA. From his many years as an experienced surgeon, he understands the crucial details and challenges that come with performing the Asian rhinoplasty for his Asian patients throughout Atlanta and the surrounding areas. Many cosmetic patients of Asian descent are looking to build up their noses, which requires a keen, artistic eye and intimate awareness of ethnic traits.

What is Asian rhinoplasty?

Asian rhinoplasty is a surgical, cosmetic procedure used to enhance the features of the nose on a patient of Asian descent. In most cases, Asian patients lack cartilage in their noses, which reduces the build, minimizes defining features, and widens the base. Asian rhinoplasty carefully enhances the features of the nose while still respecting and preserving beautiful Asian traits.

How does Asian rhinoplasty differ from other rhinoplasty procedures?

Caucasian patients tend to have more cartilage and defining features in the nose, which they are looking to minimize. Asian rhinoplasty does the opposite and enhances the features of the nose by addressing the traits specific to the nasal structure for persons of Asian descent:

  • Shape: Flat and less projection over the bridge, wider and rounder tip, and flaring nostrils

  • Cartilage: Less prominent, causing the tip of the nose to be less defined

  • Skin: Thicker skin, giving the tip of the nose a rounder, boxy appearance

  • Bones: Angled, causing a wide nasal vault and potential breathing problems

What can Asian rhinoplasty do for my nose?

Asian rhinoplasty can address a wide variety of nasal features so that you get the desired outcomes you would like to achieve. Extra cartilage can be used to build up your nose and give the tip and bridge more defined features. The base of the nose can be narrowed to lessen the flare of the nostrils. The possibilities are endless, and all depend on your personal goals and Dr. Mang’s expert recommendations for your unique surgical plan.

Will my face look more balanced after Asian rhinoplasty?

Dr. Mang is known for his artistry and attention to detail. With your personal cosmetic goals in mind, Dr. Mang can carefully enhance the features of your nose while respecting the balance and Asian traits of other facial features to give you a beautiful, natural appearance.

How is the procedure performed?

Asian rhinoplasty is performed in our office in Atlanta, GA using general anesthesia, meaning the patient will be unconscious during the entire procedure. A tiny incision is made at the tip of the nose to access the underlying structures. If there is not enough cartilage and the patient wishes to build up their nose, Dr. Mang will take tissue from another portion of the body (usually a rib or an ear) to create the desired shape of the nose. For a wide nasal base, Dr. Mang will make an incision between the nose and the groove of the cheek to narrow the base. Patients are sent home the same day after surgery with a recovery plan.

How long does recovery take?

Dr. Mang sends his patients out with a nose splint to maintain and protect the new shape of the nose and the freshly made incisions. Patients can expect temporary tenderness, bruising, and swelling after surgery. Pain medications and over-the-counter medications can be prescribed or recommended to alleviate any irritating symptoms. At a one-week follow-up, Dr. Mang will remove the splint, inspect the incisions, and remove any stitches to ensure proper healing. The initial recovery phase is approximately 1– 2 weeks. Afterward, patients can resume normal activities.
